Power for receiver

Can I power my receiver in the usual way by pluging a battery (5v) into the 'BATT' channel of the receiver? The reason for asking is that it seems people are powering the receiver from the Alexmos controller board or have I misunderstood.

you don´t need to. the board has several 5v outlets
