Why we need MEMS gyroscope?
  • MEMS gyroscope (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) is an instrument used to measure and maintain orientation. Its has widely used and it can play a role both in the air and ground, such as aerospace, UAV, drones, oil logging, mining, surveying etc. The four reasons will be introduced below to show why we need this chip gyroscope.
    Reason 1. MEMS gyroscope has unique advantages
    The most obvious advantage is its small size. Traditional mechanical gyroscopes or FOG (Fiber Optic Gyroscope) are not as small as MEMS gyro. We can judge whether a MEMS gyroscope is accurate by measuring range, bias instability, angular random walk and other data. For example, MG2-50/100 has a measurement range of 50-100 deg/s, bias instability of 0.01-0.02°/hr and angular random walk of 0.0025-0.005°/√hr, which shows that the accuracy of MEMS gyroscope is very high.

    Reason 3. Other important advantages
    Due to its small size and light weight, MEMS gyroscopes have low power consumption and are conducive to mass production. Moreover, the size is small so the cost becomes smaller. This is a very suitable choice for some companies and industries that need to control costs. MEMS gyroscopes have good reliability and can work well in harsh environments. For example, in some harsh underground environments, MEMS gyroscopes can stably output data.
    Reason 4. MEMS gyroscope can be used in many devices
    Air: Can be used in IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) and INS (Inertial Navigation System).
    Ground: Can be used in gyro tools, such as special shaped probe tube. Only very small gyroscopes can meet the requirements to be installed in it. It can also be used in north seekers, which can be of great use in mining equipment. Can be used in gyro theodolite to complete surveying and mapping work.
