8Bit DYS Smart Gimbal - Sbus not working 2.40b8 FW

My Gimbal doesn't seem to be reading the S-Bus Protocol from my X8R.
My X8R is set to Mode 4 (D16) so 16 channels from the SBus port and channels 9-16 from the standard PWM ports for servos.
I have the RC_ROLL pin set to Sum-PPM (the only digital option) and my Pitch Channel to my Virtual Channel but it just makes the gimbal go haywire. I've tried multiple channels but still no luck.
PWM out put to the Pitch control set to analog works fine...
Any ideas?
