So, are you saying that the behavior I am currently seeing is correct? Your potentiometer mod sounds fascinating, but I have no idea how to adapt it into the system so that my Home Position button resets according to craft orientation.

If you're sure that it's the jumper, then yes. Bridge the gap with solder and it will power the right side of the board with 5 volts.

Yaw slipping during roll???
Are you sure you got the pole numbers correct? If they're too small, the motors will heat up and strangeness will occur.
