I've build a 2-axis gimbal using 2208 motors and the SimpleBGC 32Bit Rev. B. The stabilization works, but whenever I tilt the gimbal up- or downwards by around 90 degrees, it looses stabilization and gets into an infinite resetting loop. Most of the time, this can be fixed by tilting it back to a smaller angle. I'm using a single IMU, which is mounted at the back of the camera module (Axis Top: -X, Axis Right: Y).
