Analog Joystick as button
  • Hi.
I have a Sparksfun joystick and am planning to use it to manually control my handheld gimbal. It has a "push down" function that sounds a lot like a button being pressed, is it possible to use this feature for any of the functions in the "service" menu in the GUI?
If so how do I map it, and does it need additional cabling apart from the normal pitch/YAW?

Another questions, does anybody know if it should be connected to the FC Roll and FC pitch connectors or should it be wired to the A1, A2, A3 pins on the 32bit board?

This is the Joystick I have: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9032
And this is the breakout board: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9110
  • I am thinking that it might be possible to run a cable from SEL and GND on the joystick over to the BTN connectors on the board. Any thoughts?
  • It is better not to connect the SEL to GND,( http://dlnmh9ip6v2uc.cloudfront.net/datasheets/BreakoutBoards/Joystick-Breakout-v12b.pdf ) but take the button two wires separate from other wires firectly to the BTN connection on board. Then it will works as any button. If connected to ground, you need to make sure that one of the BTN pins is GND (it could also be + and then it will not work if connected to GND) But if you run the vires separately it looks just as any button.

Analog joystick is connected to the analog connections. See the users manaual
  • Hi Garug.
I might have miswrote my intentions, I was not planing on connecting SEL to GRD but to run wires from SEL & GND to the button pins on the board. But its nice to read that it should work.. I will make an attempt later this week to se if its something that is working well.
  • I mean it is better not connect to GND at all, connect SEL+ and SEL- to BTN without connecting to GND.
  • Ahhh sorry Garug, of course your right :) Thanks for the correction.
