[need help] 2 axis gimbal: Roll motor not enough power? PID?
  • Hi everyone, I am a newbie to gimbal and PID tuning. I am making a 2 axis gimbal for two cameras: a GoPro and a Flir thermal camera. For the ROLL, I am using the BGM 4108-130 motor and the PITCH motor is Ipower Gbm3506h-130t. The current power I set for Roll is 210 and Pitch is 150. The gimbal work when it on the ground. However, when I mounted on my drone and flew it, the ROLL axis acted strangely. The Roll motor does not hold the axis well. I suspected that when the wind hit it, the motor could not handle ???? I tried to increase the power but nothing was fixed. Anyone know how to fix it? I am using UBEC to get constant 12V. Simple BGC 32 bit controller board. my PID setting for Roll was P:17 I :0.12 D:30. The power for Roll was 210. Here is the video of the problem:

    Thank you for your time
  • You need to see the reason first, get it out from probeller downwash.

This is probaly also tuning related. You have tuned it on ground, you need to tune it for flight.

And it could be I2C errors due al the elektrical noice when motors are running.

Also make sure it really is working great on ground, when you move the multicopter fas large deviations like on the video. If it works good, good, if not, it could be also basic setup related.

I would put the camera closer to drone. also make sure your vibration dampening is good.
