Astable 555 timing circuit (0.5 Hz and 50% duty cycle)

    I am trying to build a timing circuit to generate a 0.5 Hz 50% duty cycle signal. In other words 1 second on, 1 second off, and so on...

    I have searched a few places and found the following instructions but that did not work.

    Any ideas?
