High speed gimbal
  • I would like to know if a Basecam gimbal with encoders can be setup to be able to move a 35 gram sensor very quickly for scanning an area.

    Larry
  • Not ideal for that, but depends how quickly.
  • I would think I need to have the sensor on the yaw axis because the sensor needs to continuously scan horizontally, up to 10 degrees.

I would like at least 30 cycles per second for the yaw axis but faster is better.

I will build the arms for the gimbal with 3D printed carbon reinforced Nylon the are almost hollow for high stiffness and very light weight.

Is using a shaft encoder and hollow shaft motors is a good way to start?

Do you think that the GUI settings will limit the speed of the gimbal or will it be the weight of components and the power of the motors?

    Larry
  • If you mean 30 times per second 10 degree scan, no, it can not do that.

You should use very light mirror etc. for that kind of frequency and control it with something else than gimbal.
