I would like to order a new gimbal which has encoders build-in. For example the Ikan / Beholder EC1. There is no possibility to get access to the controller hardware, where I can unplug encoder cables.
Is it possible to disable all encoder functionallity for testing purposes? (without unplug cables)
Maybe replacing encoder firmware with normal firmware? Or are the still plugged in encoders work against it?
Make sure you save all your profiles and EEPROM. Then it is easy to test. The normal FW should work just fine, just make sure all RC settings are disabled.
You can disable the encoders on the Encoder FW just unselecting them or setting all encoder settings 0, it will work as that is how it is set up, first everything else and then encoders, but not necessarily perfectly.
Also note, encoder gimbal normally has only camera IMU. with camera imu only the functionality is somewhat limited, but will work ok handle close to level position.
