Can't enable control on Android app (SimpleBGC32)

Version 2.43b9 on tablet running Android 4.4.2

I made sure that all axis are set to SPEED MODE. But when I press the On/Off button in the Control panel, nothing happens. I have tried on another android device (a phone running Android 4.4.4) and it works fine. Everything else I've tried on the tablet works, but not Control. Any ideas on how I can get this to work on the tablet, or what the problem might be?
